Nyungne Purifying Ritual Practice

Nyungne Purifying Ritual Practice
Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14

Each day begins at 6:30am with Mahayana Precepts*. This is required to participate in this retreat each day that you attend. It is a ceremony in which we vow not to engage in negative actions of body, speech, and mind for 24-hours. We also engage in a fast, limiting our intake of food and water (according to our capacity), to purify our negative karma.

Retreat Session Times on Friday and Saturday: 7:30am, 10am, 3pm
Sessions are about 1 and ½ hours long. They include singing melodious prayers, making beautiful offerings, prostrations and requests, to draw close to the Buddha of Compassion.

This special fasting and purification retreat is performed in conjunction with Eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara- The Buddha of Compassion.

It is very powerful for purifying negative karma of body, speech, and mind, and for pacifying strong delusions such as desirous attachment and hatred. It is also a special method for recieving blessings and improving our experience of love, compassion and bodhichitta.

*Taking the precepts is required in order to attend any of the sessions.

Offering to the Spiritual Guide will also be held at 1pm on April 15th in celebration of Buddha's Enlightenment Day. Everyone is welcome to attend these special chanted prayers.
