Drop of Essential Nectar (Nyungne)

April 15th marks the anniversary of Buddha Shakyamuni demonstrating the attainment of enlightenment in 589 B.C.E. This is an extremely auspicious day in the Buddhist calendar because our actions are 100,000 times more powerful than on other days.

Kadampa Buddhist Centers worldwide celebrate Buddha's Enlightenment Day with a special purification and fasting retreat based on the practice Drop of Essential Nectar -- an annual retreat performed in conjunction with a practice of the Buddha of Compassion. Making many prostrations, both mental and physical, is part of this practice, but each person decides their own level of physical participation.

This practice is very powerful for purifying negative karma of body, speech, and mind, and for pacifying strong delusions such as desirous attachment and hatred. It is also a special method for receiving blessings and improving our experience of love, compassion, and bodhichitta.

🙏 Anyone participating in each day's prayers must attend Precepts at 6:30am. Learn more about the practice of taking the Mahayana precepts HERE. If you have not previously taken precepts, please email epc@meditationintexas.org prior to registration.
